Are there any questions you would like to elaborate on?

What HP character do you identify with most and why? I think I’ll elaborate on this one a bit more as I’ve been listening to the books. I would like to point out that, although I do identify with Hermione, it is only because I can’t really see anyone else that I am like in the books. I did think of some more points for why I am like Hermione though. I am often not liked straight off because of my personality and sometimes shunned because of it. However, when people get to know me then they generally really like me and, as with Hermione, I have a few close friends and a lot of acquaintances rather than a lot of friends.

What would you see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised? I’d also like to elaborate on this one a bit. I thought I’d explain more on what I see as me being successful. For me it’s not only being settled happily with my partner and hopefully children but in my professional life as well. I’d like to see myself as a professor with a Noble Prize in Chemistry. Obviously, if it ever happens, it will be a long time before I have the chance to get it, but I have to have something to aim for right?

I’d also just like to talk about my application on a whole. I know that it is quite short, thankfully long enough for people to be able to sort me, but I guess not long enough for me to be entirely happy with where I was placed. I guess in that case it is my fault for not elaborating enough. However, after years and years of writing too much and waffling I’ve managed to get to the point where I am concise with my answers as is expected from me being scientist. This means that I find it rather difficult to write more than exactly what is needed. I will try my hardest to elaborate completely with the following questions though.

Pick one or two canon qualities from each of the four houses that you possess and explain why you picked them:
Gryffindor: Attention seeking-it’s not that I need to be the centre of attention all the time, but I do like it when people pay attention to me. I’m not really attention seeking in a doing things to make people pay attention to me type of way but it’s more of a subtle thing where I just happen to make people pay attention to me… it’s kind of difficult to explain. Easily bored-I get distracted rather easily when doing things and often jump from thing to thing. I’m more than capable of focusing myself when I need to but if I’m just going about daily stuff I have trouble doing something for too long.
Hufflepuff: Hard-working-when I am working on something important then I will work and work and work on it until it’s not only finished but as close to perfect as I can make it. I know that this appears to contradict the fact I am easily bored, but I believe that it is possible to have both of these traits. Practical-with this being a word with quite a few meanings I am going to address the two that I feel are most applicable to me. I am practical in the sense of being happier doing practical work rather than theory, something that I have leant the hard way this year in being forced into a theoretical project. I am also practical in that I am sensible and realistic when it comes to doing things.
Ravenclaw: Studious- not only do I have a love of books and a desire for knowledge (from books and through experience), but I am observant and meticulous in my studies and work. Intelligent-I understand a lot of things and then have the ability to adapt and benefit from what I have leant and can solve problems effectively from this knowledge.
Slytherin: Determined-one I set my mind on something I achieve it. It may be difficult, yet if I want something then I pursue it until I get what I want. Resourceful-I can cope with difficult or unexpected situations and normally come out on top.

Now pick up to two canon qualities from each of the four houses that you do NOT possess and explain your choices:
Gryffindor: Impulsive-I’m not really a person who acts quickly and will do something there and then just because I want to. I’m a planner and find it rather difficult to let go. Tactless-I am very aware of other peoples feelings and rarely say anything that people may be upset by or take offense to. Occasionally it will happen but that’s generally when I’m very annoyed and have given up on being tactful.
Hufflepuff: Team-player-I get along with people just fine until we have to work together. I am much better just being left to my own devices and doing things for myself. It’s not that I don’t get along with other people it’s just that I don’t trust them to do a job as well as I could and would prefer to do everything myself. Peaceable-I am not a very calm person and if someone gets on my nerves (although it does take a lot for that to happen) then I am generally a rather hostile person.
Ravenclaw: Unemotional-I am very emotional, little things will set me off crying and I am a rollercoaster of emotions pretty much every day. Idealist-I’m very practically minded as mentioned before and so not an idealist.
Slytherin: Networker-I generally don’t like to meet too many new people as I am more than happy with the people that I know. Vain-I am possibly the least vain person you could ever meet. I will just throw clothes on, tie my hair back, and glance in the mirror to check that I look ok. Luckily I am also a person that can look good (or so I’m told) without even trying. I tend to underestimate myself and therefore have little pride in myself let alone false pride.

Explain why you feel misplaced in your current house: Although I do have some of the traits of a Hufflepuff, I do not feel that they make up the majority of my personality. When watching my votes come in the first time and seeing just how many Hufflepuff and Gryffindor votes I was getting I was really confused and, as previously mentioned, I think this may be down to my lack of elaboration in some areas. I just never saw myself as a Hufflepuff. When reading through the books when I was younger and fantasising about going to Hogwarts I never pictured Hufflepuff as being the house I would be placed in, but others instead. I also feel as though I may have been placed there as people weren’t too sure where to place me as people did mention that I was difficult to sort and I’d rather have a more accurate assessment of my personality than just be placed somewhere because people couldn’t make up their minds.

Is there a particular house you believe you would feel more at home in? If yes, please explain: Since being sorted I have thought a lot about my personality and how I see myself. I think I’d like to start by saying that when doing this there is one house that I definitely don’t see myself in and that’s Gryffindor. It made up a lot of my votes the first time, yet I really don’t understand why. I feel like I have very few Gryffindor traits and those that I do posses are not that dominant. On the other hand the house I feel that I do posses most of the traits of is Ravenclaw. I always saw myself as a Ravenclaw when reading the books and it’s the result I get when ever I do sorting quizzes. To address one of the votes I received on my first application I feel much more like a slightly brave Ravenclaw than a clever Gryffindor.
